Republican representatives have expressed immense outrage after the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Monday. Rep. Dan Newhouse, who voted to impeach Trump in Jan. 2021, is one of them.

“You can be a supporter or not of President Trump and can still be very concerned about what’s happening here,” Newhouse said on the Jason Rantz Show. “This move is unprecedented for the FBI to go into a former president’s home with a warrant to pick up information that they’ve been apparently negotiating back and forth to get back to the archives. What we heard from Mr. Garland this morning was almost nothing, no information whatsoever. And I think the American people deserve much more.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland called a last-minute press conference Thursday, stating he personally signed off on the search warrant for the raid, and that the Justice Department aims to make more information public.

“We don’t know their justification. That’s what they’re not shedding any light on whatsoever and I think that that’s what the American people need to hear,” Newhouse said. “They need to hear what caused the Department of Justice to take this action. A lot of people are speculating and going on very little information and to let people do that, to spin and spin and spin for days on end, that is not healthy for our country.”

After the press conference, a federal judge gave the Justice Department until 3 p.m. Friday to certify whether former President Donald Trump supports or opposes unsealing the warrant and property receipt from the FBI’s search.

Kevin McCarthy, the House minority leader, threatened to investigate the Justice Department if his party wins control of the chamber next year.

Newhouse advanced to the general election in Washington’s 4th Congressional District race, facing Democrat Doug White, despite being one of the 10 Republican House members who voted for Trump’s impeachment following the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump later endorsed Republican challenger Loren Culp in the district.
